Biography

Experienced and versatile singer, she performs different genres. She started when she was really young as singer-songwriter, then as lead vocalist in a rock funky band (Missing in Action), which achieved great feedback within the national network.

Very soon she approached jazz, studying with Bob Stoloff, Jay Clayton, Rachel Gould, Mark Murphy, and focusing on the vocal technique with opera singers such as Rosetta Pizzo e Francesca Scaini.

Alongside the commitment to music, she undertook academic studies (Bachelor’s degree in Literature earned in 1994 with a thesis on Boccaccio’s Decameron), at the same time working as vocalist in recording studios for Francesco Baccini, Paola Turci, Ivana Spagna, Paolo Belli, Umberto Tozzi and others, and taking part in TV shows (Canale 5) as backing vocals for Italian (Elisa, Renato Zero, Matia Bazar) and international (Sister act, Sister Sledge, Anguun) artists.

In 1997 she won a scholarship for Mogol’s CET, where she attended a Venetian folk music course.

She has been intensively involved in gigs and performances for years, collaborating with different ensembles: “Canzoni in jazz” is a show from her quintet where new interpretations from pop to jazz are combined with Venetian ancient melodies in deep connection. Other projects include the Venice Gospel Ensemble (three album to their name) and the vocal sextet VG’s Time Out, both directed from Maestro Luca Pitteri (vocal coach in the TV show “Amici”).

For a few years she was the lead vocalist for Maurizio Camardi’s Kammerensemble, of which the last album, “La frontiera scomparsa” (duets with Ricky Gianco e Giovannardi from La Crus) is published from Il Manifesto edition. She featured as guest in the album from her husband, the double bass player Maurizio Nizzetto, which is entitled “Shades” and received excellent review (Enzo Siciliano on “Venerdì” from “Repubblica”, “Musica jazz” and others).

The theatrical project “La buona novella” has been a great audience success for the last years. The melodies from the famous De Andrè album are reinterpreted along with the monologues from Giovanni Giusto (actor from “Teatro dei Pazzi”).

For years she has been teaching privately and in music schools.

In 2004 she published her first album, “Un’altra musica”, entirely written and interpreted by her, and edited by SELF label. The acoustic texture and the Italian lyrics are weaved together with refined melodies, halfway between jazz and songwriting.

Her collaboration with the jazz pianist Roberto Magris gained international plaudit since 2008, when they started to present abroad a repertoire of “Canzoni italiane in jazz” (Italian songs in jazz).

In 2009 it was published the “Peregrinazion lagunari” cd-book (LA NOTA label), a project based on Venetian ancient melodies reworked in a modern and refined language, able to respect and reveal the original inspiration.

In 2010 in Maurizio Nizzetto “Mare su chiglia” she interprets some tunes from her double bass player husband, engaged in complex composition with interest to contemporary jazz.

In December 2013 it is released her last masterpiece, “Redemption Songs: Canzoni per l’anima”, an album where pop and jazz are wisely blended in the personal arrangement of classics that survived trends and styles. Thanks to great musicians, who are well known and esteemed in the jazz and blues scene, the show brilliantly intertwines emotional and overwhelming energy.
